To reach Bukit Lawang, you must travel to North Sumatra, as Bukit Lawang is located in this region, about 3-5 hours from Medan’s Kualanamu Airport (depending on traffic). The best way to reach Kualanamu Medan Airport is from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or Jakarta, with a short flight to Medan Kualanamu Airport (about 1 hour). There are three transportation options to Bukit Lawang based on your budget, time, and comfort preferences.
Private Car Service

PRIVATE CAR

We offer private transportation services to Bukit Lawang, available whenever you need it. Opting for a private car provides a more convenient and comfortable experience. We can arrange pickup/drop-off from Kualanamu Airport to Bukit Lawang or vice versa, with a private car for up to 4 people. All our cars are air-conditioned, and your private driver can also make stops at ATMs or money changers if needed. The trip takes approximately 3-5 hours.

Price: 800,000 IDR one way, including luggage.
Tourist Bus Service

TOURIST BUS

This is an ideal option if you’re on a budget but still want a comfortable ride. Tourist buses depart from Medan Kualanamu between 1 PM – 3 PM, and you may need to wait if others arrive after you or need to be picked up in Medan. The return transportation from Bukit Lawang departs once daily, starting at 8:00 AM.

  • Bukit Lawang to Medan City: 150,000 IDR
  • Bukit Lawang to Berastagi: 230,000 IDR
  • Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba: 270,000 IDR
  • Bukit Lawang to Kualanamu Airport, Medan: 210,000 IDR
Note : If you are alone, they may charge the rate for two people—for example, from Kualanamu Airport Medan to Bukit Lawang is 420,000 IDR, and similarly for the return trip.
Public Bus Service

PUBLIC BUS

Choosing public transportation will make your journey an adventure as you’ll be sharing the bus with locals. It’s a more affordable option, but it takes longer and is less comfortable. The ALS bus goes directly from Kualanamu Airport to Binjai City (50,000 IDR). Upon arrival at Binjai Station, take a tuk-tuk (20,000 IDR) to Tanah Lapang Binjai (pickup point for the Pem Semesta public bus to Bukit Lawang, fare: 40,000 IDR). The last Pem Semesta bus leaves at 5 PM, so ensure you reach Tanah Lapang Binjai by 4:30 PM, or take the tourist bus instead.
